- VERITAS FORUM
The UCLA 2012 Veritas Forum is coming up soon! What is the Veritas Forum?
“Veritas Forums are university events that engage students and faculty in discussions about life’s hardest questions and the relevance of Jesus Christ to all of life. We seek to inspire the shapers of tomorrow’s culture to connect their hardest questions with the person and story of Jesus Christ.” (Read more about the organization at their website, Veritas.org!)This year’s topic is: Does God Care?: Seeking the Meaning of Life in the Midst of Suffering and Death. The presenters will be Ray Barfield (Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Duke School of Medicine; Associate Professor of Christian Philosophy, Duke Divinity School) and Michael Lill (Clinical Professor, UCLA; Medical Director of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center) Both come from prestigious medical professional backgrounds and will be relating to their medical experiences; Ray Barfield works with children diagnosed with terminal illnesses, and Michael Lill himself is a cancer survivor. Please come out (and invite your friends!) to hear these two doctors discuss the topic of faith, suffering and life.
It will be fourth week, Tuesday April 24th, 8pm @ Grand Ackerman Ballroom. Yes, it’s during midterms but try to study ahead and come out to this campus-wide event! Doors open at 7:30 pm, and you’ll need to get a wristband for entry. Please think about going early to wait in line- the Forum is expecting a big turnout! Admission is free and no rsvp is necessary!
happy weekend to you all!

- Serving the community

Last Sunday, we had the opportunity to serve with Cornerstone Church and Life Baptist Church to help host Harvest Festival. Neighborhood families were invited to come for free hot dogs, candy and play at booths for facepainting, pig racing, cake walk, bottle toss, and other carnival games along with giant air jumpers (for the kids
).

We had a great time. Just wanted to thank everyone who gave their time and effort to volunteer. In the coming months, we’ll be serving with World Impact to provide free basic health screening to underserved populations within LA who do not have access to medical care, and with Children’s Hunger Fund to help send toys to impoverished families. Like we’ve been learning through the bible studies in Acts, through these concrete avenues we want not only to assist in meeting people’s immediate physical needs but help meet the ultimate need, as God sees it, for Jesus.
- Fall Retreat
Please continue to pray for the upcoming Annual Fall Retreat at Oaks Conference Center (Oct 14-16) with speaker Pastor Peter Lee from Worthy Life Baptist Church in Washington DC. The first message of the retreat will be at church this Friday, 7:30pm with Pastor Peter. Afterwards, we will drive up to Oaks Conference Center together. Pastor Don Overstreet will give the final message at the Sunday worship service at church.
We will have rides from campus to the friday and sunday sessions at Life Baptist Church; contact us for more info.

This Friday we’re driving out to Griffith Observatory – definitely one of the must see places in LA. We’ll go star-gazing and catch some of the best hilltop views of the city:
We’ll be leaving UCLA @ 6pm. Bring a sweater and eat dinner before. Contact us for more info on the rides.
