Join us for dinner at Ackerman every Friday night at 7pm before Bible Study begins!

EatingAckerman

Every Friday at 7pm, we’ll be getting together at Ackerman A level (same level as Panda Express) to have dinner together before Bible Study begins.  Bible study starts at 8pm in Kerckhoff 131 so we’ll head over together after dinner.  Last week, we had Papa John’s (we were careful not to eat it too close to Sbarro’s…)

LA Tour

IMG_1255

We had a great time on our LA tour last Saturday (9/27).   We went to the Farmer’s Market on Fairfax for lunch, and then visited  the Hollywood Walk of Fame (Mann’s Chinese Theater, Kodak Theater, the stars on the ground).  Le Bron James was promoting his new movie that day and we waited a bit for him to arrive, but alas – we went home disappointed (some of us got promotional T-shirts for the movie though!).  More pictures.

Weyburn BBQ for Grad and International Students

Join us this Saturday (10/3) at 5pm at the BBQ grill in Weyburn near Jacaranda Court to hang out and enjoy the good food.  :o )   map

Evolution and Christianity: Are they really at odds?

Hillsong United Concert

Together with the LCF Undergrad group, we went to Nokia Center in downtown LA to see Hillsong United perform.  It was a rare treat!  From our seats in the Mezzanine section at the back of the theatre, we could see that the theatre was absolutely packed.  Imagine 7,000+ people praising God together in unison – this gave me a picture of what the “great multitude” in Rev 7:9 might look like.

“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.  They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.  And they cried out in a loud voice:
               “Salvation belongs to our God,

who sits on the thorne,
                and to the Lamb.”

Special Good Friday Service: “Christ in Passover”

This Friday, in lieu of our normal Friday night bible study, there will be a special Good Friday service held at Life Baptist Church at 7:30pm.  The group “Jews for Jesus” will be giving a special presentation, entitled “Christ in Passover”.  Those in our fellowship who have seen a similar presentation before have really been blessed by it.  If you need a ride, just let me know:o )

On Sunday morning at 6am, there is also a Sunrise worship service at Will Rogers State Beach.  And later that day at 2:30pm is our Easter Worship Service, with baptism, an Easter skit, special musical performance, and BBQ afterwards.  Please join us!

Dr. Francis Collins, Director of Human Genome Project, to speak at Caltech on 2/5 – we’re going!

Dr. Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D., former NIH Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute who oversaw the successful sequencing of the human genome, will be speaking this upcoming Thursday, February 5, at 8pm at Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium in a talk co-sponsored by LCF at Caltech.  His topic will be a book he published in 2006 entitled “The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief”.  This is a rare treat!  We will be carpooling together, so please let us know if you are interested in joining us!

UPDATE: If you weren’t able to catch his talk, you can catch it here at the Veritas Forum’s website.  This is a video of the talk Dr. Collins gave on the same topic at Rice University.

UPDATE 2:   In November 2006 TIME moderated the debate: God vs. Science.  The debaters?  Francis Collins and Richard Dawkins – two preeminent scientists but with opposite views on the relationship between God and Science.  Check it out!
