Well, okay, we might not be able to learn Greek and Hebrew with that great fluency, but at least we can pick up a few words here and there to be able to enjoy the richness that we lose when the Bible gets translated to English. Pastor Daniel gave a little appetizer at our Grad/ISM Retreat — create, dust, and ‘in Christ’ are just a few words/phrases that get over-simplified in English.

Pastor Peter Lee, pastor of Worthy Life Baptist Church and a graduate student studying Hebrew Bible/Northwest Semitic Philology at Johns Hopkins University, will be giving us a language primer on Thursday, 1/19, and Friday, 1/20, 7:30pm – 10pm on each night. Contact Tim for more details.

Jesus who allows me to be with Him. The Sovereign LORD says, “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19). He is the moving agent that changes us. And, “he who began a good work in [us] will carry it onto completion” (Philippians 1:6). I’m thankful that Ephesians 5:18 is written in the passive voice. God Himself is the one who fills us with His Holy Spirit; it is not by our effort or ability. While I am still a sinner, Jesus Christ died for me, so I know what love is (Romans 5:8).

What are you thankful for?

This Thanksgiving, we can recall God’s faithfulness in our lives by praying through Deuteronomy 8 and making it our own testimony.

In the coming months, we’ll be serving with World Impact to provide free basic health screening to underserved populations within LA who do not have access to medical care, and with Children’s Hunger Fund to help send toys to impoverished families. Like we’ve been learning through the bible studies in Acts, through these concrete avenues we want not only to assist in meeting people’s immediate physical needs but help meet the ultimate need, as God sees it, for Jesus.

Please pray as some of us will be volunteering at a health fair this Saturday, 11/2. The fair is sponsored by Jefferson Community Church, a church planted by World Impact for the community near USC.
