Stories: Finding Meaning

This year’s Veritas Forum will feature “Stories: Finding Meaning – Discovering Art, Spirituality, and Meaning”. Neal Baer, M.D., award winning television writer and producer and John Shepherd, Founder and President of MPower Pictures will discuss the enjoyment of stories, and how the appreciation for certain themes might reflect on the fact that we ourselves are part of a bigger story (more about the presenters).

Please join us and consider for yourself the meaning in life as you engage in thought-provoking presentations and conversations. “What is Veritas?”

Welcome Trojans to the beginning of an exciting school year!

Here at Life Christian Fellowship, we wanted to let you know about our upcoming welcome events to help you get started on the right foot. Feel free to drop by one of our tabling sessions, or better yet, join us for the Welcome BBQ this Saturday to hang out, get to know us, and eat some serious hot dogs! Don’t forget – our first Bible Study and Fellowship takes place the following week! Here is a quick summary of the events coming up:

8/20 (Sat) – Welcome BBQ (URC 108, 11:30 AM – 1 PM)

8/21 (Sun) – Christian Connection (Tabling at Tutor Center, 12 – 2 PM)/Sunday Worship Service at Life Baptist Church, 4 PM

Daniel Lim, (Ph.D. Philosophy-Cambridge University) will talk about the relationship between the life of the mind and life in general. What you really believe critically shapes every part of your life. Developing a Christian mind is essential to living a Christian life. Dinner and seminar. 4/24 (Sun) – Easter Sunrise Service, Will Rogers State Beach, 6:30am
4/24 (Sun) – Easter Worship Service with baptism, 4pm @ Life Baptist Church

Presenter: John Lennox, Professor of Mathematics, University of Oxford

Science claims to be one of the few objective ways of understanding the world. But science itself is deeply affected by our pre-existing beliefs and these a priori commitments color the way we assess the so-called ‘evidence’ for or against theism. Come and hear Dr. Lennox discuss how it is possible for two people to examine the same data and come up with vastly different interpretations. The lecture will be followed by an audience Q and A.
